The Counting House Nursery in Headingley
Our Headingley nursery is a vibrant, welcoming setting where children can explore, learn, and thrive in a safe and supportive environment. Set in a beautiful building with a homely feel, the nursery offers carefully designed spaces that nurture independence, creativity, and curiosity from the very start.
Our curriculum here is unique, we offer forest school inspired sessions on a weekly basis our curriculum approach is based around children’s interest and a blend of life skill activities that promotes children’s independence.
We work towards the EYFS goals and strive for every child to be ready for their next stages of learning. Our dedicated staff operate a strong key person system that prides itself on getting to now children and families well and planning appropriate individual next steps for children.
Due to the large scale of the building the children are fortunate enough to have their very own nursery library. At Headingley, each child when registering to nursery receives a free book and a library reading journal. The children then have weekly trips to our in house library to exchange and borrow books to promote the love of reading.
A Space Designed for Every Age
The nursery provides a variety of rooms tailored to different age groups, each one bright, well-resourced, and thoughtfully arranged to meet children’s need, our curriculum allows us to change nursery frequently, which means children access a range of resources, toys and role play areas. Typically every 8 weeks.
- Baby Room: A large, nurturing space for our youngest children, offering comfort and stimulation.
This room host large climbing equipment to encourage the babies physical development. Within our baby room we plan around the 3 specific areas of the EYFS as this is the fundamental basis before we can extend children’s learning further.

The Pre School children have a large room that encompass all of curriculum principals. We emphasis on teaching and preparing children for their next stages of learning, embedding the 7 areas of learning and working on school readiness challenges and activities for the children. Areas of learning within the environment are carefully planned for all ages of children who access pre school, meaning we tailor activities and shelf work activities making sure the large space is accessible and inviting to all.
Outdoor Learning & Play
We believe outdoor play is just as important as indoor learning. At Headingley, children enjoy access to a secure outdoor area filled with opportunities to explore, move, and create. From climbing and riding bikes, to digging and exploring the forest school, every child has the chance to develop confidence and enjoy the fresh air all year round.
Forest School
We are currently training our own forest school teacher, we have 2 weekly forest school days on Wednesday & Friday’s where our forest school lead takes the children for inspiring outdoor learning.
The children thrive in the natural world, exploring the great outdoors in a safe and stimulating way. Nursery host its own reading nook in the forest school area, again promoting the love of reading and one of our curriculum principal of being a literacy rich environment. The children enjoy a range of activities in the forest school area including our camp fire and mud kitchen.
