The Counting House Nursery – Heckmondwike
In February 2008, less than two years after opening our very first nursery, we were proud to take on a struggling nursery in Heckmondwike and transform it into the vibrant, welcoming space you see today.
Following extensive refurbishment and thoughtful adaptations, our nursery has become a warm, well-resourced, and homely environment where children can thrive.
Please note: This is a term-time only nursery. We are closed during all Kirklees school holidays.
A Space to Grow and Explore
Registered for up to 41 children, the nursery offers a variety of playrooms and activity areas on the ground floor, leading into a large, light-filled conservatory. From there, children enjoy free-flow access to our safe and spacious outdoor play area.
- Baby Room: Located upstairs, our Baby Room is a cosy, nurturing, and stimulating space designed especially for our youngest children in nursery. The cosy room hosts a home from home feel and prides itself on the nurturing environment it provides for our under 2’s Our baby room staff are specifically trained in additional baby room training to make sure our youngest children have the best start to their education.
- Toddler Room Our toddler room is a cosy environment where children thrive. We focus on all 7 areas of learning from 2 years + with of children. The toddler room is a busy room where children learn vital life and social skills.
- Pre School Room Spacious, engaging environments that encourage independence, imaginative play, and early learning focusing on school readiness and the next stages of learning. The Pre School children have 3 spacious rooms, including the conservatory area where they have free flow access to outdoors.
- Outdoor Learning: Our large garden is filled with opportunities to play, climb, and explore. Active children love our climbing frames and tyres, while budding gardeners take pride in planting fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants in our raised beds.
A Unique Discovery: We even uncovered a real, full-sized well in the garden – complete with water at the bottom! Completely safe and securely covered, it has become a favourite feature with children delighting in dropping pebbles and listening for the splash.
Our nursery was awarded a certificate of inclusive practice by Dingley’s Promise.
Dingley’s Promise provide expertise and knowledge to our practitioners to develop through online training courses to support those working with children in the early years with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). To be awarded the mark of achievement and receive the certificate of inclusive practice there is a commitment from the setting that all our staff complete the training.
